Who says you have to have beautiful sunny skies to have a fun and romantic engagement session?
It was supposed to be a serene sunrise session on the beach with the sun at a distance as it said “good-night”, to dawn and, “good-morning”, to daylight. We were to dig our toes into the sand in front of the soft pink, purple, and blue colors as the sun had begun to peak over the horizon. It was a perfect setting to capture a celebration of love.
Picturesque!
But life wouldn’t be interesting if it didn’t rain on one’s parade from time to time. We woke up to gray skies, rain that had more tantrums than a 2 year old, and winds that fearlessly smacked us in the face. It was the tail end of a nor’easter. The rain and winds were supposed have been gone by this time but nature does what nature wants. So… we went with the flow – of the wind.
We started Erica and Chang’s engagement session at Spring Lake’s Divine Park, in hopes that the wind would calm down before we headed to the beach. Luckily for us, when we started, the rain turned to occasional mist. Erica and Chang were nervous at first but quickly embraced the moment and continued to make memories. It was like any other session – magical. They smiled, laughed, and held each other. They felt their emotions. And just like any other session, we had to make sure the angles were right. Instead of making sure the light was hitting her face correctly, we had to make sure the wind was hitting her face correctly.
So if you find that it might rain for your photo session and it can’t be rescheduled, don’t fret; take a breath – it can still be beautiful! If nature is not on your side when your session starts, you can use umbrellas, find a canopy of some sort, take it indoors or simply, dance in the rain!
