Kelly and Matt had their fall engagement session at a location that was near and dear to their hearts. They spent a lot of time walking around the quad, wandering the halls, and sitting in their class together. Because they met at Fairleigh Dickinson University, it was such a sentimental place to them. Having their engagement session at their university made it that much more special. I got to see where they spent their time together and the very spot where they met!
It was the first day of freshman year. Kelly and her sister were the last ones to walk into class. Little did she know that her future husband saw her walk in and purposefully awaited to hear what her name was during roll call. Matt jotted down her name and did what any college student would do – looked her up on social media! Not long after, they went on their first date to TGI Friday’s. They had a great time, despite Kelly not agreeing with Matt taking off the chives off of his mash potatoes. A problem she wanted to rectify rather quickly.
Regardless of the chives situation, Kelly knew Matt was the one for her when he met her parents. She had always envisioned marrying an Italian athlete who loved sports and valued family as much as she did. When Matt met her parents, he and her dad hit it off instantly. Her father is very hard to please, especially when it comes to his daughters. He approved of Matt right off the bat. Matt new Kelly was the one the moment he laid eyes on her that first day of freshman year at FDU.
One year into their relationship, they took their first vacation together to North Myrtle Beach, NC. This was a vacation that would become an annual family trip for them. It was on that first trip that Matt swore to Kelly that he would propose to her there one day. So on year 5 of their annual trip, can you guess what Matt did? Nothing – they simply had a great vacation. But year 10? Year 10 was the year! 10 years of getting to know each other; 10 years of growing together; 10 years of building an unbreakable bond. Matt knew it was time. He planned to have the family play games on the beach. He brought champagne and wine, and they were all ready to “hang out.” Matt and Kelly walked to the water where he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. He had kept his promise that he had made to Kelly that very first year they took their trip to NC together.
Although Kelly was never able to fix the chives situation, she still loved Matt and obviously said yes!
