Mary Ann and Jake had their colorful spring engagement session on the Asbury Park boardwalk. Nothing like the uniqueness of the historic Carousel Building, the Asbury Park Convention Hall, the jetty and all the murals spread throughout the boardwalk.
HOW THEY MET:
How does anyone meet these days? On a dating app of course! They had an instant connection that resulted in constant banter via text. Jake knew he had to venture over state lines to meet this woman he was smitten over so he jumped on a train and headed out to NYC to take her out on their first date. Drinks, dinner, and multiple games of very competitive darts over Bud Lights at Mary Ann’s favorite dive bar. Jake was even able to get some exercise in at the end of their date as he sprinted to catch the last train into New Jersey.
HOW THEY KNEW THEY WERE THE ONE:
Mary Ann knew Jake was the one for her a few months into dating. When she had roommate issues that displaced her from her apartment, he was there every moment. He helped her with solutions and even had her move in to make sure she was safe. This stressful situation helped Mary Ann see that Jake would always be there for her in trying times.
Jake knew Mary Ann was the one for him because they immediately started spending a lot of time together. When the holidays rolled around and she went away with her family, he realized he had never missed someone or something so much.
THE PROPOSAL:
He never actually proposed! He was too shaky that he couldn’t open the box. He was too nervous to get the words out!
It was going to be a big night! They were going to a concert but Jake had lost something. He desperately needed help so he asked Mary Ann to come upstairs to help him out. When she walked into the room, there he was on one knee – silent and with a closed box because he was too nervous and couldn’t open it. That didn’t matter. It was the easiest “yes” of her life.
Mary Ann was completely floored! She had no idea he was going to propose! A few weeks prior she had jokingly said to him that it would be great to be engaged prior to a holiday party that they were going to host. Jake laughed it off and said that it wasn’t happening. Little did she know, he had this whole scheme brewing.
The best part was that instead of going to the concert that Jake had made up, they actually met with their families. Jake had arranged for everyone to be together right after to celebrate their engagement. The next day, for their holiday party, they were able to announce to all of their guests that they were engaged to be married!
